As a first-generation immigrant who has benefitted from the tremendous opportunities given to me here, I aspire for the next generation to share the same prospects. I want to see the Rent Board retool itself to become a problem solver and a key educator in the rental housing community. The Rent Board should play a role in creating fair policy that tackles the real problems of affordability, safety, and diversity in Berkeley's rental housing.
I will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to preserve Berkeley's affordability and diversity. As a retired engineer with over 45 years of experience in problem-solving, decision-making, and consensus-building, I am confident I can advocate for a balanced approach to rental housing policy in Berkeley. We need to protect the rights of tenants, while offering a fair return on investment to property owners.
I believe that the Rent Board should incentivize, as well as collaborate with housing providers and other stakeholders to bring the best housing possible to Berkeley. It is important to me to uphold the mission of the Rent Board to protect tenants against unwarranted rent increases and evictions, and to provide for a fair return on investment for property owners.
